No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationNo eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationDoes anyone know if an 18" mag wheel off a KZ1000 (Cop Bike) will fit onto forks /swingarm of a GPZ900. I am building a cafe racer that is Half Honda, Half Kawasaki and would like to fit these wheels if possible. They have a Lester look about them.

Here is what I currently have:

and the wheels in question are something similar to these:

The reason you don't have answer is probably because usually the refit is done the other way around i.e fitting a lighter wheel to the bike. I have a GPZ swingarm and GPZ900 wheel to my Z1R. It wasn't easy as the swingarm required a bit of sculpting to clear the brake setup.
The wheel was a different problem because I had to line up the sprocket with the wider wheel and keeping the wheel central, at the same time making sure the chain clears the frame.
I also found most of the time you can fit other wheels to different shafts by using different wheel bearings i.e if you have a smaller shaft try a bearing to match the wheel (outside diameter) and the inner diameter to match the shaft.
I assume you are using the GPZ900R motor.
If you don't get a clear answer and the wheel doesn't cost a fortune just give it a go.
I'll be interested in seeing the end result
First Permanent ride the Z1R since Dec1977 (220,000km) as of June 2015
Second permanent bike 1989 FJ1200 dyno'd 140RWH, great bike.
Third ride is now the Frankenstein 1981 GPZ1100B1, getting new/ refurbished 83-84 motor soon
Forth my work bike FJ1200 1989 (same type as above)

I don't have an answer, but looking at the factory diagrams for an 84 GPz900 and a 1991 KZ1000P, they have a lot of parts in common.
  • The right hand axle spacer is the same
  • The speedo drive plate is the same
  • The speedo drive is not the same, but they share some internal parts

Also, All Balls Racing list the same front wheel bearing kit for the GPz900 and the 82-05 KZ1000P.  So you know your axle will fit.

I think it's worth a try.  The two wheels were designed around the same time, so it's certainly possible that they maintained the same brake disk spacing.  That seems like the most likely issue.

Around 81/82 was the first major re-engineering of wheels, frames, engines, brakes and just about everything else since about 1973.  So it's likely that they didn't change that much in the next 2 years.

I have found an eBay seller who will take the wheels back if it does not work so I will report what I find once I receive and have had time to fit.
