Ugh. You should have taken the opportunity to ditch the 630 chain for a quality 530.

Yeah, I wouldn't have done that well if we didn't find out 3/4 of the way through my tank that the next gas station was 40 miles away. On the way in I was riding in 'sport' mode, 1st, & 2nd gear, revs around 6K. On the way out I was riding like I was driving a Volvo, 3rd & 4th gear revs around 2.5K--practically idling in parts. That 49MPG is the average of the whole ride. I must've done 70MPG or so on that last leg to bring the average up so much. No real problems keeping up with the group, but some of those uphill corners were pretty sketchy to putt through at 2.5K. Had only been on reserve for 15 miles or so before we hit the gas station.

On this bike I usually get 36-42MPG, riding normally.

I contacted Z1 and asked to be notified when they get in the 18T 530 sprockets for the KZP. I can wait a bit since I am waiting on shims and bearings anyway...

All this on back order? There are other suppliers. I don't fall into that back order hole. Been there.

Unfortunately, Z1E seems to be the only source for this unique part. I've been watching that sprocket myself... It's been out of stock for over 5 months that I've been watching, so I personally don't hold out much hope for it. There are several sources of 18T sprockets that don't have the boss on them, but then you need to order the spacers from Z1E anyway (they also seems to be the only people who carry these). But at least the spacers are in-stock. Well, "in-stock" meaning whatever it does to Z1E...

Heh. All I can say is doublecheck everything. Z1E screwed me again. Turns out those spacers they sell don't actually fit over the splines on the countershaft of a KZ1000, so here I am with one redundant sprocket, one sprocket that I can't use and some useless washers to boot. (and no idea where to get spacers that DO fit). Oh, and a wasted Saturday evening because I only discovered the misfit after having already removed the old sprocket.

They lost me starting with the over priced defective 40 year NOS fork boots.


Gave them a pass on the wrong piston and had to wait two weeks for the right one.


Lunched another piston, they wanted to sell me one but it would be on back order. NO DEAL.
Something I didn't mention, when I was making up my second order and told the SALESMAN I'd get back to him later in the day, he tried to hit my card for what was on the list so far. I told him I had to transfer funds and would be revising the list. I got a e-mail my card was declined. DUH.
I also didn't like it when I was asked what I did for a living. I had already spent a $1000 on the first order and that's chump change to some people.
I've been buying from somewhere else.
Tried Partzilla yesterday. Need a spark advance. No pic so I called them. The guy was very vague and finally said the chances are the part will come up obsolete and I would get my money back eventually.
The motorcycle business has always had it's share of crooks but that's when you could go to the store or shop and size them up. Now it's a crap shoot of getting your parts or not.

Bummer. I guess I'll unkink the ol 630 and try to use that as long as possible. The sprockets are not worn or hooked so I can probably make it last until I (we) find another alternative. I sent JT Sprockets an email last week to ask why they don't have a listing for a 530 KZP front sprocket They are located in-town so that may be worth a trip there...

We do not list a 530 for the Police.
We have had several people say that they use the JTF517 with spacers and that it works well.
Below is a drawing of the item for you to check out. If you decide to use this item please note we are not saying that it is correct for your bike only that we know of several people using them for your application.

The JTF517 comes in an 18 tooth version (JTF517.18)...it is just flat without the shoulder your original has.


So basically, no 530 sprocket for a KZP from JT sprockets unless you go the spacer route. Darn.

Yeah. Sprocket Specialists is who Z1E gets their custom 18T sprocket from. So it would probably make more sense to contact them. However, I get the feeling there would be some kind of minimum quantity involved in the deal.

Did JT mention WHAT spacers were used and WHERE they were acquired from?
