hi guys, just pulled my front wheel so i can blast and paint it while i have the wheel off i decided to check my neck bearings, i don't feel any play but when i turn the neck side to side i feel hesitations is this because some one overtighten the bearings or they need to be cleaned and greased or just replace the stupid thing cause one more part aint going to really matter anyway??? thanks

oh by the way do i need to sign up to get into the archives i've tried (not to hard!) and it keeps saying i'm not a valid user?

The "neck bearings" argument sometimes gets as heated as the "oil" argument. On mine, the bearings had worn grooves into the races, so I replaced them with tapered ones.

To be honest, you probably aren't going to know for sure why it's doing that until you pull them out and inspect them.
You are right though, it could be that they are over-tightened and binding, or are bone dry and just need re-greasing. It could also be that there's sand/dirt in there, which will wear them down quickly!
Worst case sceanrio is that they are simple worn out, and/or the bearing races are pitted and causing them to bind slightly. At which point you should replace them with a new bearing and bearing race set = average of about $35-$40 online.

The old site is an archive, and is strictly read only.
Meaning no one can post or reply to a post there.

And the reason the archived site doesn't recognize you as a valid user when trying to sign in there, is because you weren't originally a member there before it became archived, so therefore aren't in that data base.
That's kind of odd though, because you still should be able to access it to read stuff without being required to log in there.

I know I can still log in there to read old PM's and saved posts or threads, since I signed on there before it became archived.

BTW, that's a very nice looking KZ750 you've got there. B)

I guess your madness is contagious.
What pic? And of what 750, huh?

I got my posts mixed up...oops.

I can sympathise with you on the lack of available parts, since I just finished restoring my ZN700 (basically it's the cruiser version of the KZ700, and kind of resembles the 750 Vulcan).
