Rain problem
14 Nov 2006 11:14
Everytime I ride when it's raining or the roads are just wet, I lose my two outer cylinders. My old Honda 750 did the same thing. I'll lose two cylinders and I'll look down and see the two outer pipes are cold and wet. Am I the only one with this problem? I tried numerous times to fix the problem on my Honda. I tried new plug wires and boots, silicone grease and everything and I'd still lose my two outer cylinders on wet roads. I haven't done anything to fix this problem on my KZ1000 yet, but I sure would like to. Is there a fix for this, or is my bike doomed to ride and sound like an old Honda 350 two cylinder in the rain?

I had my bike die on a rainy day for the same reason. I had put a shorter 1000 LTD front fender on my 650 (for looks :laugh: ), but because it was shorter, I was getting water sprayed up under my gas tank and soaking the coils. When I removed my gas tank, the coils were dripping with water. :ohmy:
I dried them off and was on my way.
To fix the problem I did a few things;
First I switched back to the longer stock front fender.
Second I sprayed my coils and all the wiring under the tank with an electrical sealer spray, made for just a situation like this. It dries and leaves a thin coating of who knows what that protects the electricals from wetness.
No problems since, for over a year.

holy crap - I had this problem yesterday night! My bike just decided to stop mid turn through an intersection
Was lucky enough to be able to coast through to the side of the road
I'd better check the coils..would this make the headlight turn off when I press the brake pedal too?
:blink:
Edit: It turns out it was a blown main fuse..so I guess I have to check the wiring for some worn insulation/contact with the frame.

Check the 1/4 coil for cracks. If the coil is cracked, it will short when it is damp out and you will lose spark. If you find cracks either replace the coil or try filling them with epoxy.
