ignition/charging system up grades for the 750B twin??
12 Oct 2006 23:06
is there a simplified wiring diagram floating around for the kz twin?
i read something about dumping " ballast resistors "... the less systems/parts that can fail - the better
anybody know if there is an electronic ignition made for these old two lungers?
whats the hottest coil set up for these bikes??
and.. whats the best brand ( and source ) for an updated reg/rectifier ?
been a while since i felt like such a newbie

I don't know of one
82-83 750 twin stock electronic ignition will fit the earlier models.
KZ440 stock electronic ignition will fit the 750 twin also.
New regulators and stators are available from Rick's or Electrex for the 78-83 models, best idea for a 76-77 is to update it to the 78-82 style (requires replacing the stator, rotor, engine cover, and reg/rec with later style parts).

No ballast resister on any year 750 twin.i read something about dumping " ballast resistors "... the less systems/parts that can fail - the better
I think the Boyer Bransdon (or something like that) is still available.anybody know if there is an electronic ignition made for these old two lungers?

Accel or Dynawhats the hottest coil set up for these bikes??
Depends on the year of 750 twin, 76-77 use one type of charging system while the 78-83 uses a different type.and.. whats the best brand ( and source ) for an updated reg/rectifier ?

I'm glad this came up.
I'm trying to sort out my twin too.
I was told it had a bad stator when I bought it.
It came with another stator, and from kawasaki.com , it looks to be the newer type with the cover and all.
I haven't checked the regulator yet (that's next).
She runs, now she just needs to charge!

Just to clarify, its the Boyer Brandsen, and yes it is still available. Also, besides the other Steell mentioned, there are still a few Newtronics floating around out there. See these links:anybody know if there is an electronic ignition made for these old two lungers?

Not sure about "hottest" since I'm no expert, but I got a Dyna Dual Output 3.0 Ohm Coil DC1-1 from z1Enterprises.com and it is great. Might be the best upgrade I made to the bike, and there have been many.whats the hottest coil set up for these bikes??
Again, I got this regulator/rectifier from z1Enterprises.com. There are others out there to be sure, and you can certainly get one from eBay, but that was one item I just didn't want to mess with... after blowing up all the bulbs on the bike...and.. whats the best brand ( and source ) for an updated reg/rectifier ?

It's "Boyer Brandsden" according to
This site
, so I guess we were both wrong
We could argue about who was closest though, if you want
76-77 KZ750B cover has 3 screws around the center to hold the stator, and they are visible on the outside. To switch over you need the stator, cover, rotor, and reg/rec.

Isn't the wire harness from a KZ400 the same as the 750B, in fact wouldn't most of the twins of that era be just about the same, I have two 305s for parts

I doubt it, I know the KZ440 harness is quite a bit different because I have one I use for parts.
What year is your 750? I might have a wiring harness (77 and 78 I think}.

Mine is a 79, the wireing was a bit funky when I got it, I took apart most of the connections and cleaned them up but there has always been something not quite right, I'm not afraid of it just another thing thats going to be done I guess, if you have a harness that would be great,I have four I'm doing now and time is at a premium, I have a ton of 650 and H1 parts but only the one 750twin
