Starter \"flat spot\"
25 Aug 2006 23:14
I am looking at an '83 KZ750 Shaft - want to buy it tomorrow. It's a bit rough around the edges, and one thing has me particularly concerned:
There's a flat or dead spot when trying to start the bike. I hear the starter crank but it doesn't engage. New battery.
I don't mind if it's a starter - what is the likelihood that there could be teeth missing on the flywheel? That would make this NOT worthwhile...
Thanks. I look forward to a couple of replies before I make my decision tomorrow.

I have the same bike and mine had the same problem when I got it. At first the engine would crank a little but got progrssivly worse until finally the starter would just turn, but not the engine. Had a bad starter clutch. It was a pretty fun to replace, took me all day.

Thanks. I appreciate it.
For $500 the bike has a parts bike too. Engine just overhauled. I guess it will be worth it.
Gonna call the guy and tell him I'll buy.
A appreciate your reply
