Stator Removal Help

Hi folks,

I need to replace the stator on my KZ750r1. After removing the cover and the 3 bolts holding the stator, it’s firmly fastened to the cover. Any suggestions on how to remove it please?

Thank you for any help.

Jeff

Shouldn't be that hard, you have the easiest of the two styles. You have the inner field winding and only centered by a casted collar in the middle. Try using a wooden dowel. Locate/tap dowel on the outer edges of the field winding core in stages of 180degs. NOT rambunctiously mind you, just enough to slightly "rock" stator, then twist up/out. Hit it too hard and you'll crack the cast in portion, just want to "jar" it..

This is a common issue on 650/750 engines. There are 4 mounting bolts, you either missed one or it is missing/broken off in the case.

There are also 2 locating dowels in the lower case to align the cover on center, that is where you should be hitting it the most. The dowels are pressed into the lower case around the mount bolts.

Those lower dowels are prone to developing rust and that will make the cover difficult to remove. Spray those lower 2 mount points with a penetrating solution (PB Blaster) and  warm the cover lug with a heat gun or propane torch (if your not worried about the paint) that will help in removal.

Thank you, Asphalt900. I’ll give that a try and will let you all know if that works (pretty sure it will). I’ll be careful…

Hi Injected…thanks for the response, but the problem (which I probably didn’t describe well) isn’t in getting the cover off. It’s actually getting the stator off, as Asphalt900 described, but I was very happy to see both your and Asphalt900’s answers so quickly.

Sorry I did not read that correctly.

OK those SHCS holding the stator to the cover usually have some blue thread locker on them. Don't use a impact gun on those as you may strip the threads, they will usually come out by hand.

Its best to clamp the cover in a vice with wood covering the jaws so you don't mark the cover. Same thing, if they are hard to remove try some localized heat to soften the thread locker.
