1976 Kz400-D - Charging System was created by RetroRipper
Hello! I have a 1976 Kawasaki KZ400-D that is not charging the battery. I would like to know what I need to fix the R/R and if the newer versions still require a voltage regulator? In that case, do I only purchase the new R/R and plug it into the original voltage regulator? I get confused. Help!

Have you done some testing to find what is causing the issue? Stock the system is a 3 phase excited field coil system and came with individual regulator and rectifier units. In truth any of the 3 items could be the cause of lack of charging. What have you done to determine which is the issue?
If you know that the regulator is the issue then yes a rectifier is still required. I do not know this for a fact but am pretty sure there are combo units (regulator and rectifier together) that can be installed but make sure it will work with the 3 phase excited field alternator.

I'm detecting a "touch of sarcasm" here - people here put a lot of time and effort into providing advice and information to help others. I'm not sure that it's unreasonable to expect you to put a little bit of effort into finding what you need as opposed to other people repeating previous work to make your life easier. You should find what you need belowWow you’re a great help
