Electrical Failure
25 Jun 2025 08:51 - 25 Jun 2025 09:30
All electrical systems were functioning properly when my engine was started and run for a minute in the driveway before being turned off with the key.
Ten minutes later, turn the key...nothing at all!
Hours later after changing fuses, checking all connectors, swapped in different ignition switch and voltage regulator, then stripped 90% of the black-gooey electrical tape off the main wiring harness to examine the wires...
🤪
Bike has a Dynatek 2000 ignition, installed in 2012 has never had a problem...fingers crossed.
🥴
Â
13V is present on the white wire to the ignition switch when the key is off.
It is then present on the white/black wire with the key in the start position. Not sure beyond that...

When you say nothing at all, just what do you mean? None of the lights, including what I call idiot lights (neutral, high beam, break light etc.), work when the key is turned to on? If that is the case does the battery have full charge? Sounds like you have some voltage drop testing to do. I would suggest you take a look at wookie's well done testing doc in the file base and this link.

This dumb a$$ didn't check the battery voltage with the key on...
Last thing I expected was to have a crapped Bike Master Tru-Gel (black case) battery in it's third year of use, when the previous (with blue case) was still operating as new after five years.
Should have known when a different battery (with the same brand and model number printed on it) showed up than was illustrated on the ebay listing, and I was too smart to send it back.
BTW, is there an electrical tape that won't become a black goopy mess when removed (after many years use), like the 3M Super 33 stuff I wrapped on last time?

Re: Electrical Failure
26 Jun 2025 06:57We've seen many batteries that show good voltage but can't produce any current (amperage) to speak of. A load test will always tell the tale.daveo post=914047 userid=23775BTW, is there an electrical tape that won't become a black goopy mess when removed (after many years use), like the 3M Super 33 stuff I wrapped on last time?
Search on 'dry vinyl tape' for the stuff wrapped around wiring harnesses & such that doesn't leave adhesive goo behind.
