1983 KZ440 LTD Starters are that expensive?

Starter died, pulled it and looks like the magnet is shattered. Is there a good place to get a reasonably priced starter? E-bay has KZ440 starters from $250 up...

Wonder if I can swap the rear housing cover from a KZ250 starter, they are around 50 but not sure if the torque it generates would be enough....

Before you fit a replacement I would suggest checking the starter clutch, that's a lot of damage to have inflicted on itself without help from the motor
