No Headlight Beam Indicator
09 Oct 2020 14:35 - 09 Oct 2020 14:38
Hey guys! Small problem for you. I have a 1981 KZ750 LTD and the high beam indicator light isn’t turning on when I switch to high beam, but my headlight still changes. When I purchased the bike, the wiring harness was pretty botched, but I managed to get it restored for the most part, however I do have two female connections with no mate and I’m curious if these would have something to do with my problem. One is a black and yellow wire that appears to be a ground to the frame and one is a white and black wire that appears to be hooked to a relay of sorts. Any ideas?

Regarding the 2 wires the connectors dont look kawasaki so perhaps the PO put them in for some removable accessory.
Check kawasaki.com, owner info, parts diagrams, etc to chassis electrical equipment and i think you will find that "relay" thingy is a fuse box.
Like Warren said check the bulb. You will need to remove the 2 small nuts underneath the speedo which hold the bottom to the top. You will probably need to disconnect the speedo cable and move it out of the way. The rubber covered bulb holder will pull out.
I cant remember exactly but I think that with the nuts and cable removed the speedo comes out of its bracket.

Black/yellow is ground wire.
Check socket and center pin for 12 volts with high beam on, could be bulb also.

check sockets for contacts to be seated all the way in, and check voltage as stated, most likely lamp, relay thingy is accessory fuse holder, white/blue-12+ with yellow(orange)/black-12- for accesories, other ends , in headlight, white/bk 12+ for accessory in rear or elsewhere,
