Part Identification 1978 KZ650-B2A
12 May 2020 03:45 - 12 May 2020 05:39
Hey Guys,
I checked Kawazaki's parts diagram and was unable to identify this (relay?) part. I am trying to diagnose an ignition issue. My bike has a Dyna S ignition system which has worked until recently, but now can only be kick-started (no turn over or crank when pressing ignition). The battery is new, the fuses are good, so I am hoping it is this part that has gone bad and needs to be replaced. All ideas are welcome!
Thanks.

How many wires & what're the wire colors? Looks like the Outage Indicator Switch which wouldn't have anything to do with the ignition system.
On my KZ650-CSR the switch lets you know that the brake light is or isn't working >> the tachometer has a STOP LAMP warning light & the switch works in conjunction with the stop lamp & brake light.

That looks like the tail light outage relay and is nothing to do with ignition. Is it located behind the lh side panel mounted on the back of the electrical components mount plate?
Your issue is more likely in the rh switch gear starter button. Check it out and clean up the contacts within the switch.
Ps add your bike model so we can more easily help you.

It does help to put the model in the signature. He has the motorcycle in the title, but I miss that a lot of times as well. more often than not. hee.

For a second there before my previous reply, I had to ask myself how I knew it was a KZ650. forgot that it was in the title. doh.
