KZ550M1 No power to cluster but the battery is good.
21 Nov 2019 12:34
I have an 83 kz550 m1 shaft drive. Went to go start it one day and no power to the cluster, no power when i switch the key to on. Good battery, Good fuses, Good connectors as far as I can tell after checking with a light meter. It's been rainy here. Attached video tells more.

No video.
Did you test the fuse for continuity? Glass tube fuses can look good, but be bad. The fuse element can come loose from one end, but you can't see that.

You need make up a simple circuit tester if you dont have a multimeter and check each connection starting at the battery. I had a similar issue with a repro ignition switch. Power was ok all the way to the switch but nothing coming out when on. Took the switch out and the main power in lead had disconnected from the solder point on the back. Cheapo repro parts from China!!!!!

You can buy a basic tester pretty cheaply.

And for a bit more, you can get fancier ones that will do all you will likely ever need to do on an old KZ.

How do you know your battery is good?
I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

Hey all, figured out it was the fuses in the wrong slots. After checking those and putting new ones in it fired right up. Also if I took a wire brush and brushed the fuse clamps the lights and gauges turned on. I brushed them free of any corrosion and found out this neat trick that led me to my solution! Also used a diode wand to check battery and power flow through all my connectors and wires.
