'77 KZ650 Missing handle bar switches?
31 Oct 2019 05:42
Hey guys, looking for some insight into a weird problem. I seem to be missing a hazard switch where the manual indicates it should be, under the L/R signal switches. Also, my light switch on the right side is sealed where the manual shows I can switch it from ON to OFF. Not so concerned about the lights one as I'm okay with them always on the ON mode but why would I be missing the hazard?

early B1 switches had no hazard swiitch.
The on/off light switch has been sealed by a PO. It never came from the factory like that.

It seems a little strange, but the 1977 KZ650-B1 bikes did not come with the hazard switch while the 1977 KZ650-C1 bikes did. The right hand switch missing the ON/OFF for the headlight appears to be from a later KZ650. The 1977 controls came with the headlight ON/OFF switch but that was deleted on later models. Notice that the words LIGHTS, ON, and OFF are not painted on the switch on your bike; they were painted on the 1977 KZ650-B1 and C1 switch. The images below show the 1977 KZ650-C1 controls. Ed

I see, thanks guys! Lots of little quirks to learn I see. I was worried about passing safety standards in Ontario to get the bike registered but apparently Hazards aren't mandatory so I'm clear
Just need to replace the flasher relays as they just stay on instead of flashing right now.

I replaced my flasher relay 14 years ago with a Tridon/Stant 552 2 prong relay. It works great, did not cost much, and flashes at a steady rate regardless of the condition of the battery. Ed

My wife's 2013 V-Star does not have a hazard light switch so I don't think they are code anymore.
as for the off/on switch , I wanted to have one on my 78 A2A and found out that the wiring harness had the brown wire needed to switch it over, it just wasn't plugged into anything , so I found a 77 control and switched it out, easiest mod ever and now I have the off/on headlights.
I run a halogen headlight and I will turn it off if I'm firing up the bike after it sat for a few days , much easier on the battery IMO
