What Kind of speedo you are talking about? Some electronic speedos could be some pain in the ass (bouncing needle) on old bikes.

There may be a youtube video for your exact speedo or something pretty much the same.
Your CSR may be a 1981 model. You can check the vin at Kawasaki.com or CycleChaos.com or check the model application chart on the back cover of the Kawasaki service manual. There's an 81-83 KZ1000/1100 FSM pdf w wiring diagrams & it may be linked in the filebase here on KZR.

note: the date of mfg isn't necessarily the model year >> as with any other vehicle mfg, some 81 models would have been made in 1980.
