where does this wire go? KZ750 Twin
18 May 2019 00:29
Hi there,
I'm trying to figure out where this wire coming off the inline fuse goes to, or if it goes to anything. There is another wire that has nothing connected to it as well. Do they go together? Both are circled in yellow.
Thanks

The accessory fuse box is in the pic, so the terminal on the right is an accessory wire lead. Notice that the acc fuse box has another wire lead & it may terminate inside the headlight bucket.
The other terminal may be an accessory ground. Black-yellow is usually ground, but I would check it with a multimeter to verify. There may be an acc ground terminal at the headlight bucket as well.

It would help to know what year and exact model with letter and number designation in order to know what diagram to look at to help you.
You can put your bike info in your signature and then you won't have to type it every time.

This is a good point but I'm not sure what my letter designation is. My signature says 1983 Kawasaki KZ 750 LTD. Do I find the letter designation under the seat? On the rear fender? I am new to this bike. I noticed in the Clymer manual, there is no wiring diagram for the twins. I thought that was odd.

Look at the neck of the frame where the front forks attach. You should find the info there. Ed

Although silly, I keep the KZ750 twin models dentified by using the acrostic phrase:
My Kawasaki By God.
Kawasaki KZ750 750cc 4-cycle twins:
1976 Kawasaki KZ750-B1
1977 Kawasaki KZ750-B2
1978 Kawasaki KZ750-B3
1979 Kawasaki KZ750-B4
1980 Kawasaki KZ750-G1
1982 Kawasaki KZ750-M1
1983 Kawasaki KZ750-K1
1984 Kawasaki KZ750-K2
Per KZr member, steell:
76-79 KZ750 were the "B" model, single disc front and rear with wire spoke wheels.
1980 KZ750G, pretty much the same as the "B", but with rear drum brake and mag wheels.
1981 model 750 twin doesn't exist.
1982 KZ750M1 CSR, same motor as the "B" and "G", with air injection into the exhaust, with wire wheels and rear drum brake.
1983 KZ750K1, same as M1 except for belt drive.
1984 KZ750K2, Canada only, same as K1.
Per KZr member,TexasKZ:
The K1 and K2 (LTD) had mag wheels.
If the manufacturer's white label on the steering neck is still there and legible, perhaps there's some reference to or further information about the model.
Good Fortune!

There are several KZ750 twin wiring diagrams available from KZr's file base:
And KZR's filebase also has several other links to KZ750 informatiom:
Scroll down to click on "Twins." And then click on "KZ750."

Ok, the tag says JKAKZDK1 so this is a K1.
The black/yellow wire coming from the inline fuse box shows 12v without the ignition on. The other wire is a ground.

Would re-examine the wiring diagram, as I'm reasonably certain that the black/yellow wire is supposed to be a ground.

The wire is probably discolored. Sometimes it's difficult to determine what color an old wire is.
As Patton suggested, look more carefully & try cleaning it with silicone spray or Endust or something.

Patton, that wiring diagram link is to an older B model bike. I'm not sure if you can edit the label on the diagram in the filebase as that is a 78 Kz750B3 model diagram. Hopefully you can.
The newer K model may use yellow/black stripe for something other than ground. I do see that color combination used for grounds occasionally, but I'm not sure it's a rule. (Whereas black/yellow stripe is pretty much a rule that it is ground.)

Black/Yellow or Yellow/Black for battery negativ, frame and engine negative terminal?
Other then Honda (Green), Kawasaki has a black main colour wire with an small/thin yellow strip for the negative terminal. A main yellow colour with an small/thin black strip wire is not a negativ terminal.
