Lost all power except for indicators
25 Mar 2019 04:37
So I was doing a 3 point turn and everything went dead, had a jiggle about with the harness where it enters the headlamp and got it back again. Happened again in a garage after I turned her off I couldn’t get her started again. Tried jiggling again but no luck, took the headlamp out the shell and checked all the connections, all seem good. Left ignition on and moved all the wires about, nothing. Took the tank off and did the same,no joy.
It is dead apart from the indicators.
Any ideas folks?

Check to make sure the harness is not cut where it enters the headlight shell. There should be a rubber ring around that hole in the shell, but sometimes the factory guys skipped it. I bought my KZ650-C1 new and that rubber ring was missing. Ed

Thanks Ed,
Harness seems ok around there. Fuses under left hand cover all ok,been back in the headlamp shell, can’t find any breaks, dis & re connected any connectors I come across, still nothing.......weird,thought it’d just be a dodgy connection/shorted wire.

I would try to check the ignition Switch on/off Position contacts and wiring connector first if you get any power in and out.

Found the problem,a soldered joint had failed on the back of the ignition switch itself. Wish I’d come back inside and checked the forum instead of beavering away!!,could have saved myself a couple of hours there scirocco.

Guessing aftermarket ignition switch? A couple of weeks ago I went out for a ride and the bike died entirely on me. Thought it would be a broken internal battery pole but that checked out ok. I had power to the ignition loom block in the headlight but nothing back from the switch itself. As I was on the road and didn't fancy pushing the bike, I cut the block off the switch pigtail and just hot wired it so the ignition was on all the time. Rode it home and took the switch out and the main white positive to the switch was hanging in the breeze not connected to the switch terminal. 5 mins to re solder it to the switch and re solder the pigtail block back on and all was good again.
Might be worth checking the Chinese soldering on these aftermarket switches when installing.
