I'm pretty sure that all 400, 440 and 750 twins have a CCW rotating crank so the starter would have to be the same. This came up in a relatively recent thread here

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationNo eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationIf you look at the timing advancer, it should have an arrow in the CCW rotation.
Also, the timing marks are CCW as well. so the crankshaft turns CCW.

.... For comparison: the 1981 KZ650 crankshaft is CW. I don't know if the starter spins in the same direction as the crankshaft.

While fixing my points last night, I spent a lot of time turning the engine from the bolt behind the points cover. The rotation direction from this side is anti-clockwise. So from the starter side of the engine, it rotates clockwise. The starter rotates the same direction, so if you're looking at the sprocket-side of the starter, it rotates clockwise.

Kawasaki twin engines turn anti-ClockWise (ccw) on the Points side = so they have to rotate ClockWise (cw) on the starter/sproket side!!!

That the crank rotates clockwise on one end and counter-clockwise on the other must be magic. :woohoo:
