Left handlebar signal/HighBeam/horn
12 Sep 2018 07:32
While repairing my malfunctioning horn ( changed to black painted handlebar and lost ground) I took apart the entire signal/HighBeam/horn switch on the left handlebar. I have now reassembled the switch but have 1 extra plate and screw. Can somebody take a pic of the inside of thier switch so I can figure this out? 1981 Kz750e

I rebuilt some of those hand controls before but can't remember the specifics. It may help if you posted some photos instead of us and tell us what specific part you have left over.

Oh, that switch is different than mine.
Did you try flipping that metal piece over and seeing if it will fit then? Looks like the tab that stick up (the part of the piece that the screw head is touching) is supposed to face up and hold the wires against the body of the switch.

I tried everything...have all of the switches functioning correctly so I'm just going to assume this plate and screw came from the 4th dimension and hope this doesn't drive me :silly:

It's to dark at the moment but in the morning I can take a look at mine 1980 KZ750E1 and post some photos. Not sure if they will be useful though as I see that the 1980 E1 and 1981 E2 LH switchgear have slightly different part numbers . 1980 = 46091-1048 & 1981 = 46091-1094. My switchgear is a lot plainer looking than Nessism's and definitely not as clean .

Hold the parts just like shown, then rotate the metal piece 90 degrees clockwise and flip it over. Please try and post back with a new photo...

See photo below.
I appear to have a similar but perhaps not identical piece at top right which holds wires in place like Nessism said.

Re: Left handlebar signal/HighBeam/horn
13 Sep 2018 07:51I see an empty screw hole where the strain relief screws on. The wires show the contact areas.

Re: Left handlebar signal/HighBeam/horn
13 Sep 2018 13:30 - 13 Sep 2018 13:35As usual, Steve is correct.

If you rotate the upper half of the control one turn counterclockwise, the wires will lay flat into the top right corner of the control housings. Although I can't completely make out the shape of the clip in question, it does appear to be curved and would follow / allow the curvature of the handlebars when the control is installed. It should hold down, and pin the wires flat against the side of the lower housing , under the handlebars.
