Lost total spark!

So I'm warning up my 78'KZ650C and bike is getting pretty warm when all of the sudden the bike shuts off! Thinking it was not getting fuel, so I remove the fuel filter that someone previously installed, hate them ... I check the plugs and cleaned them and noticed no spark, how can this happen geez it was just running fine ,,,wtf! So looks like a short somewhere or what else could it be, I'll have to test the coils also ...

This happened to me last month with my 750 (I have a 650 also though).

Im betting its the coils or the battery. I changed my coil and battery when the same happened to me, and the bike has been fine since.

Very very nice 650!

Here is mine and my 750

If they are the glass tube type you may want to double check those fuses.

I had the same thing happen to my KZ650 several years ago, and even though the fuses looked good one of them was not. The little filament inside the glass tube didn’t burn through from over voltage. Instead, the end of the filament had broken free from the metal cap at the end of the fuse. So even though the fuse looked perfect, when I checked it with a multi-meter I found it was no good. It had simply failed due to old age rather than a voltage problem. I replaced all the fuses just to be safe and have not had any problems since.

Yep. He can test for continuity with a multimeter!

If not the fuses, test the ignition coils primary/secondary circuit for continuity with a multimeter!

I found the issue, when I removed the tank to rebuild the fuel tap, then when I reinstalled the tank, something was in a pinch, cleaned everything up, put the tank back and she's good to go ... :woohoo:
