Do you know what coils you have?

Yeah, they're 4 ohm Emgo coils.

I tested different wiring combinations and rode around quite a bit yesterday but never dropped a spark. I certainly don't consider the problem fixed. It's just so random. i don't see anything I can blame it on other than the Dyna. I think it probably makes sense to replace it.

Sorry, I just realized you already said you had the Emgos earlier. (There are a couple Dyna related threads going and It's hard to keep track sometimes :) )

I would leave it in the alternate configuration so if the problem comes up again, you can see if the problem moved to 1 and 4.

No problem at all. I appreciate the help.

One thing I did might explain why the problem hasn't come back for a couple days. When I was looking at the pickup coils, I used whatever play there was in the mounting holes for the dyna plate (which was practically none) to nudge the plate toward the rear. The idea was to move the front pickup slightly closer to the magnet. I really didn't think it moved at all at the time, but maybe it did just enough. In any case, if that did make a difference, I'm even more inclined to replace it.

I just wanted to post this kind of amusing update.

Six days ago, I decided the smart move was to just order the Dyna S and be done with it. Apparently, ordering it was all I needed to do because I haven't had the slightest indication of a lost spark since then and I've logged about 70 miles. Anyway, the new Dyna got delivered today and I'll be installing it soon because I didn't find or do anything that would explain the sudden improvement. Funny how these things happen...
