Im currently working on my dads 81' kz750 and the wiring harness is in pretty bad shape so i decided to try and wire it my self. Im trying to do so with only the essential components and cut out as much as possible but i dont know much about what i can bypass if anything or how to do so

How bad is the wire harness? Are there just missing connectors or is it hacked everywhere or what?
Instead of rebuilding a new harness, you might be able to find a good used harness on eebbaayy.
If you go ahead & make one, CycleTerminal.com has terminal pins & connectors and open barrel crimper & pin extractor tools.
Z1Enterprises.com has electrical stuff as well & they have colored wire.

bare bones for mattylight ... various simplified wiring diagrams. see pages 11-20.
note: some of the wiring diagrams are no longer there (pgs. 1-10).
