Kz550 connectors
01 Jan 2015 10:53
Hey everyone
I took a break for a few months from working on the 81 550. I'm ready to order new terminals to replace some of the burned ones. I see on cycleterminal.com they come in a few different sizes and I'm unsure as to which size Kawasaki used on the Reg/Rec connector. Does anyone know the correct size?

Another place to ask, will be at
www.z1enterprises.com
and
www.easternbeaver.com
Extraction tools will be needed to remove the bad terminals from the connector(s), wire strippers, and then the correct crimping tool(s), for the repair.

I use a few of the small precision flat tipped screwdrivers to remove terminals on my bikes. Probably would be easier with the correct tool but never couldn't get one out.
I also use a pair of small needle nose pliers and a pair of side cutters to crimp open barrel terminals. Again not the proper tool but works for me.

Voltage regulator connector: probably a Sumitomo 250 from CycleTerminal.
The Sumitomo connectors listed below physically mate to the stock connectors & are a good match.
For my 81 650-CSR here's what I've gotten:
R/R (6-pin connector set) Sumitomo SC250-6
Igniter (large 4 pin) Sumitomo SC250-4
Igniter (small 4 pin) Sumitomo .110 SC1104 (red)(sm connector for the pulsing coil)
Low fuel switch Sumitomo .110 HC110-3 (non-locking)
I installed a 2007 Ninja 500 voltage regulator onto my 81 650-CSR (credit to loudhvx). It had the same connector as the stock reg-rec, but it was reversed. The old connector crumbled, so I installed the SC250. The stock terminal pins fit into the new connector perfectly.
If you have to replace any terminal pins, the open barrel terminals which are used w the connectors should be crimped w an Open Barrel Crimper: CycleTerminal sells them. Their terminal pin extractor set is nice & makes pin removal easy. I already had a ratcheting crimper from HarborFreight but the dies were wrong, so I got a set of open barrel dies from Amazon.com.
