battery recommendation
23 Jun 2014 09:37
After swearing off Chinese batteries and spending way too much time to learn that there aren't many (or any?) US-made AGM sealed batteries under $100, can anyone recommend such an animal? Either US or other origin? I can concede on Chinese but not on conventional wet, I need sealed non-lithium. It's for a '77 KZ650c.
thanks.

I doubt that you will find one. I just bought a regular one for my GPZ at Batterys Plus because they said it wasn't a popular enough battery for them to make a maintenance free one

My buddy and I have probably 6 to 8 of these Scorpion batteries from batterystuff.com.
They are great. I didn't even trickle charge them over the winter and they fired right up.
My buddy tried severeal other brands of AGM's but only the Scorpion was worth anything.
Their prices seem to have gone down too!
They had a listing for a 750, but this is what they listed for the 77 650.

Here's what they list for the 750 E, H and L. It seems to be the same one I use on the 550's.
There are other 750's listed as well.

Double check the dimensions and the lug placement (+ and -), in case they are trying make one battery fit where it shouldn't.

I just bought a lithium ion battery for my 1981 kz650. I paid $130, it's 12V and 180CCA.. it weighs nothing, is tiny, and doesn't require any acid; so it can be mounted in any position.

23 Jun 2014 12:49There's a Chinese lady comedian who told the story of how a guy was trying to seduce her: he handed her some cheap piece of jewelry and said:dur65geo wrote: After swearing off Chinese batteries and spending way too much time to learn that there aren't many (or any?) "It's special... it's made in China."
And she said:

Pretty much true.
Here is the AGM battery I run.

I will ever use another water fill battery. Last battery I got for a KZ650 was a Motobatt. Of course Chinese, but it's been awesome. Sometimes I let the 650 sit a couple months and the battery always has held its charge and is real strong. I've had it 3 or 4 years and have to say it's the best performing battery I've ever used in a KZ650.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.
