1977 KZ650 wiring diagram

I'm helping a buddy with his 1977 KZ650. The P.O. got...."creative"...with the wiring harness and controls. A quick internet image search turned up lots of wiring diagrams, but how do we tell what model he has? C1, C2, D1, D2, etc.?

I know it's not a CSR. I think it's just the "standard" KZ650 from 1977.

Or, does anyone have a link to a good, clear wiring diagram? Color, preferably.

Take a look at the VIN stamped into the steering neck. If it begins with KZ650C it is a "C" model, if it begins with KZ650B it is a "B" model. Also, to verify that it is a 1977 model take a look at the generator cover. If it has the 3 allen screws as circled below it is a 1977 model which would be a KZ650-B1 or KZ650-C1. If it doesn't have those screws it is a later model unless someone swapped engines or generators. Using the VIN from the steering neck and the engine serial number on the right side of the engine near the oil filler cap you can look up the year of the bike and engine at the link below. Let me know which model you have and I will provide a wiring diagram. Ed

Took a look at the VIN today and it's a 650B, manufactured 10-77.
I didn't see your post about the alternator cover until I got back home.

So, I guess what we need is the B1 diagram?

Awaiting word on the alternator cover.
Still not sure if that makes it a '77 or '78.

EDIT: no screws in alt cover. Engine number is KZ650BF051518

Sounds like it is a 1978 KZ650-B2 that was build in late 1977. Production of the B2 started in the second half of 1977, but they are still considered a 1978 model. Here's the wiring diagram. Ed
