Turn signals light up but don't blink

I recently bought myself an 82 kawasaki ltd four cylinder from a private owner on Craigslist. Since I got it home I have been doing repairs and maintenance on it. I have been finding quite a bit of problems on this ride. First off the turn signals will light up but won't blink. All other lights and stuff of that sort work just fine to my knowledge. I was thinking the relays? There is no noise when I turn the blinkers on. The horn also doesn't work at all and im trying to trace the problem but I don't know where to start on that either. Thanks for the help, Dylan.

If the flasher is not bad check if the person before you put in led bulbs or aftermarket turn signals in that case your going to need a set of load equalizers. Have a good one

How would I check my flasher relay? I have a multimeter so could I Ohm it out to check for resistance? Or how would I go about that?

I wouldn't go through the effort. Assuming your flasher is a 2-prong like mine I would just replace the flasher with a Tridon/Stant 552 2 prong unit. Auto parts stores carry them and they don't cost very much. The old flashers will blink slow or just keep the light on solid if the battery is not charged up hot. The Tridon unit is electronic so the it flashes at a constant rate regardless of the battery charge (except of course if the battery is totally dead). Ed

I picked up one of those Tridon/Stant 552 today for 13 bucks because my turn signals just started to slow down and eventually just stay on .

It didn't help so now it's time to play find the voltage drop :pinch:

The headlight is real bright , I'm wondering if it is the battery

I have the Deoxit.

I'll keep searching but I'm open to suggestions.

Thanks,

JD

I'd open up the switch pod that has the turn signal control, looking for corrosion in the electrical contacts. How are the bulbs? Fairly new? Also check the grounds, as they can go bad from corrosion and vibration.

Thank you Mr Folks, I need to bust open that pod anyway to get the horn going again it just wasn't that important to me .

Not sure about the bulbs, time for new ones.

The whole system was gone over with Deoxit 7000 miles ago with no trouble until now.

I'll go over the grounds real good.

The BLACK with YELLOW stripe wires are part of the ground system, so use a multimeter for continuity checks. Sometimes, wires will break inside the insulation, making troubleshooting difficult, as it may touch and open up the circuit with little movement. Inspect where the wire bundles flex too.

Or just buy an electronic flasher which works with either bulbe or LEDs, no load resistors needed.

I've been having a similar problem, turn signals light up but no blinking. I replaced the relays (hazards and signals), but they didn't do anything. I also discovered that my hazard switch only lights up the left side. My signals are aftermarket though, not LED, but brand new from dime city cycles.
