Dyna vs Accel Coils

19 May 2012 21:34
#523437
Like most people when I was in the market for a new set of coils I priced Dyna Coils after all I was running a dyna Ignition. I ultimately bought a set of Accel Coils. I Needed a set and a member had em for a price I couldnt refuse.

The Accel are more expensive than the Dyna so i am wondering is that why most people run the dyna's??

or is it because they are the match to their ignition?

does anyone have an opinion on which one is better? (if there is such a thing)

any pros and con comments welcome. just curious on any differences anyons has found

The 3 ohm Dyna will match your bike. That would be worth 3 hp. !

The Accels are more expensive because they come with more stuff: wires, mounting brackets, anvil for custom making the wires. As long as you are comparing 3-ohm Dyna with 3-ohm Accels, they are pretty similar and you probably won't be able to tell them apart in performance.

Would measure resistance of primary windings on the Accel coils to assure not less than 3Ω.

3Ω would match resistance of the green Dyna coils compatible with Dyna-S ignition.

(Use an ohmmeter with probes touching the primary terminals.)

Good Fortune! :)

 Hey don't laugh, it's a legit tool.

Actually, you get two in the kit. I've thought of welding them to a broken bolt cutter to make a decent crimper for 9mm wires.

Also the mounting, no terminal close to the mounting on the Accel. So no messing around, just bolt them on. Accel coils do come with suppression core wires, which could be eliminated for a hotter spark, but with possible interference being the result.
