I'm currently using a "Bosch" driving light for a headlight unit, with a replacable H-4 bulb, but it's not the greatest headlight. Some of the chrome has flaked off on the inside also. The pattern on the glass face isn't a centered pattern,so I'm pretty sure it's designed to be used in a set of 2 for proper dispersion of the light-rays/beams.
I've been snooping around, looking for something that has really good reflection...but NOT in a sealed unit.
I spotted a few on the bay,but I thought I'd post up on it,and see what You Guys are using, and get some details on them.
Thanks Guys! :woohoo:

I was using a Honda headlight with an H4 bulb before changing to the dual headlights. Once I found some headlight brackets, it bolted right up and all the wiring/connections were hidden inside same as the stock one. I picked it up at a wreckers for $60CDN.

Jeff sells a replacement shell that looks just like the OEM KZ900 shell (to my eyes anyway). Then I think he sells the "kit" for using the H4 style bulb. I think I also bought one of these kits from JC Whitney. They give you the reflector, the connector and a bulb. The shell comes with the outer ring and the inner stuff to mount the reflector as I recall. Jeff may have the reflector stuff as well. I just bought a headlight shell kit from him and although they cost a couple bucks more than using a rusty old one, it is nice to have something that doesn't have to be sanded hehe

Thanks Guys.
George...I asked Jeff about a headlight when I put in an order for some other stuff, and I'm SURE that He said He only stocked the sealed-beam style light.
I found this SET of lights on the bay...they do take the replaecement bulb, but they don't have a flat face...it's convex.I'm looking for a flat-faced unit, because I think they look better.
But like I said...the one I have on the bike now,is(I'm pretty sure) from a SET of 2(Bosch),and I think they're off-road style lights,so I may not be able to get a flat-faced assembly that is MEANT for a motorcycle.
Anyway...what do You think of these ones?...(a set of 2,btw)...

Looks like Whitney carries a few different kinds, at least for my 1980 650F

Can anyone speak to the advantages of the H4 conversion? Is there any significant difference in terms of brightness or beam pattern?

Or is it just a matter of replacement costs, as I assume new H4s are a fair bit cheaper than new sealed beams every time?

I've been considering this swap, and wondering what you guys think..

Thanks!

Thanks for the pic,Terry. That's what I'm after,Bud...something like that.
How does that bulb WORK for You,btw?

And Paulie?...yes,it IS mostly for easier replacement of the bulb...easier to carry a small H-4 bulb as a spare. You can also get brighter H-4 bulbs, but that's another topic...meaning You may have some wiring to do,so You don't have any melt-down of wires if You choose to use a 100 watt bulb,as opposed to a 60 watt bulb.B)
