voltage on battery.
12 Apr 2006 14:22
Hi,
I put my battery on a trickle charger and when it was fully charged, the voltage read 12.4 on the multimeter. Now this seems pretty low to me since I have seen other fully charged batteries at 13+.
The reason I am asking is because I think it might effect the results of when I am testing the charginf system on my bike. Under 4000RPM, I am only getting 12.8V across the batteries.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

Lead acid battery.
12.6 is correct.
If your meter is $2.99 special from Harbor freight, it could be off 5% high or low, out of the box. Best to do a comparitive measuement with a known good battery if don't know your meter to be close.

12.4 on the battery with the motor off sounds right.
When you get the engine up to about 3000 rpm, the voltage should be around 13.5. If its not, then you're not charging. If its much more than 14.5, you're over-charging, and you'll cook your battery.
