Stator Core Damage?, Req. Your Opinion

Reposted,moved from Engine forum.

I think this bike is also called the KZ 750 R. Here are some pics of the starter core, lead assembly, and brush plate. The carbon brushes cooked and crumbled so lead assembly and brush plate have to be replaced. The only question I have is weather or not the stator is too heavily groved.

The stator got grooved where the wires were touching it after the brushes wore completely away. But the grove doesn't look too deep.

I think the stator core looks usable. What do you think?

I'm going to buy the rebuild parts from these guys, cycleWAREables If I can figure out their website.

It looks like I would buy a rebuild kit, CWRBK-43 as indicated on their grid, but I'll send them an email and see what they have to say about it.

Brush Plate 70-502 (I think this pick on their site is supposed to be about the lead assembly, but its mislabeled on their site.)

You could take it to a starter/alternator/electric motor shop and ask them to clean it up for you (probably the best solution) or wrap emory cloth around it and twist it back and forth until you have smoothed it out.
I'm talking about the grooves in the armature :)

emery cloth and a drill press works wonders. just chuck the armature in the press and polish away :side:

Thanks for the tips. I will spin and buff it, and post follow-up pics.
