starter issues!!!
05 May 2010 09:51 - 05 May 2010 10:06
Hey guys,
I need your input. I have a hard time starting with my starter. I will crank and crank and then stop, like a clunking sound and then crank again, with the choke on,but no starting. I got good spark, battery is good. But after all that, one good kick and she's running. The starter sounds like it is dragging, but when you just open the throttle,it spins just fine. I have checked everything. iam at a loss. PLEASE HELP!!!
Thanks,
Mike
If i need to rebuild my starter, where can I find akit? i've looked on ebay already and found some for 81 and up.

Sounds just like the symptoms my KZ650 had. Dyna ignition, dyna coils, and rejetting cured it for good. Starts the first time now. I see from your signiture you already have ignition and coils. Are you running lean on your jetting?

I'd say take that starter completely apart and do a proper rebuild.
Its fast and easy, and makes a huge improvement.

Check with the local electrical motor rebuilding places, most cities have them.

Good Fortune!

Sorry it took so long to get back. Damn computer crashed and had to get it medicated!!! Damn viruses. Anyway,I talked to my local mechanic and he recommends rebuildin the starter, and makin sure the battery hasn'nt lost a cell in it. Then look into the stater clutch. It maybe going bad.
Patton,I was refering to when I open the throttle,it's not on the choke.
Next,it will start of a my truck battery, with the starter button. I looked into getting a battery from FBG,made for high copression drag bikes, but at 130 -160 bucks,a little out the budget.
I was looking on Dragbike.com an came accross an ad for rebuilt starters. It's Paul Cashio Engineering. The rebuild starter for any classof racing.
Has anyone haad aything done by him? How good is the quality and any warranty?
Thanks for all the info.It is greatly appreciated.
