voltage regulator-kz650

hi all iwas piddling around with my bike today and found that the voltage regulator was very hot im presuming this is not normal -if not any ideas on what the problem might be?thanks in advance mike......

it might not hurt to unplug and clean all the bullet connectors going to it. heat means resistance usualy. im not too sure if they run hot either. could be normal. someone else will chime in here soon im sure...good luck

Any excess energy is vented via the cooling fins of the regulator/rectifiers.Some are mounted under the battery box, others on the side.
The bike's with the magnetic rotors have alternators that run wide open, with the regulator/rectifiers controlling the battery charge and running the electrical system.

Yes, they can get serious hot, enough to burn you after spirited long rides.
Like MFolks said, its waste energy from the charging system keeping things at less than 15V.
