Major Help Needed

I was recently given a '79 KZ750 Twin (or atleast the start of) that is in need of major tlc. Basically what he gave me is 2 complete frames and an engine . While I wait on my budget for parts, I am looking for an absolute basic wiring diagram to get it to start so I can find out the condition of the engine.

Can draw you a basic diagram, but need to know if it has points or electronic ignition.
Can you see the points? It's the small cover on the right side of the motor. Are there points under the cover or is it an electronic ignition?

To be honest I really do not know how to tell the difference, this is a major learning experience for me. As far as I know everything is stock. There is a blue with white stripe wire coming out from under the cover if that helps.

Looked up ignitions on ebay lol... it is the stock points ignition.

This is all you need to make the engine run. I stripped to the bare essential to get spark. You can use the fuse holder as the on/off switch by removing the fuse etc.

This is just so you can check the engine. I can make a more complete one later if you are planning to rewire the bike. If not, then you can use the factory wiring diagram found in the filebase.

Don't leave the power on for very long without running the motor. It can overheat the coil.

Excellent, thank you. This is exactly what I was looking for, just enough to check the engine. Hopefully in the next few weeks I will be able to begin rewiring the bike properly.

I just got lucky! :) The guy who gave me the bike was going through his garage and amazingly found the main wiring harness and some of the components. I'm gonna be hooking it up in a few minutes. I still have not been able to start it. :( When I started checking to make sure the carbs slide properly, I noticed the linkage between the two carbs is missing. Is there an easy way to replace it??

Cool, thanks for the links. Now if I can just figure out how the dang wiring harness is supposed to be routed. I've got the few components I have hooked up, eventhough I don't know what they are. I know I have the starter relay, flasher, LH controls, and 2 metal boxes on the side plate.

On the bigger 4's the main harness runs along the "Backbone" on the right side transitioning to coming out the left side, then going up into the headlight housing.

The 750 twin is probably similar(could be wrong).

This is where I'm having issues since I have nothing on the front end to use as a reference. The frame is bare except for the engine and now electrical plate.
