ignition timing

Hey KZ'ers, got a question for ya. On my 76 900, I had to replace my dyna-s.I replaced it with another of course,my dilema is,the instructions for static timing the engine(included with the dyna) say to hold the advancer fully advanced and to use the right hand advance mark on the advancer for timing. Other information I have read says to use the f mark on the advancer, and doesn't even mention holding the advancer fully advanced.Which method do i use?

I use the "F" mark and not turn the advance. Just as the manual says for setting points. 9 out of 10 times if the static timing is dead on the advance will be good when you hook up a strobe. Of course you should always double check it with a strobe. The instructions are confusing with the dyna.

Thnx, Imma have to reset it. By chance do you know what would happen if I were to leave it advanced.

Should be the same. When you set to the "T" with it advanced it should equal setting to "F" without advance. That is of course if the advance is working properly. They should work out the same just different ways of getting there.
