Try this link, there are 6 sections so I just linked the one. Scroll down to the "Stator Papers" it goes from therory, troubleshooting, and winding your own.

I do not know if you have to register to access them but you might. Its on the GS site and those bikes are very similar. Give it a read

If you can get the magnet wire, special paper, special varnish and have a vacuum oven, it's possible.

Myself, I'd rather have a pro do the build up, that way their's a warranty for the work.

Yes I have matter of fact. I have done the one for my KZ1300. I used to run Halogen running lights on my Case guards which were 55W each. That kind of put the capability over the top. I burned out one of the three fazes so I rewound it. Make sure that you have a good set of leather gloves because by the time you are done your index finger will be raw.

The question is why would you want to. When I did my 1300 stator the choice was simple do it yourself or pay $700 for a new one. Today you can buy a new one for $100-$125.

I ordered one from Z1 and the quoted price was 130 but I got it for 120...and you have the same stator I have. It might have been a sale on or something, either way though it was easy and now I can ride for more than 15 minutes at a time ya! lol don't forget a new stator gasket too...
