The turn signals will not auto cancel after turning. where should I start looking for problem, front wheel drive unit or the turn sinnal relay under right side cover? Hazzards and all other lighting works fine.

I'd check the electrical connections for looseness and corrosion on the sending unit first and then replace the relay(or flasher as some people call it).

The few older Kawi's that did have the turn signal auto-cancel feature functioned by distance traveled, unlike a car or truck that cancels when the steering wheel is turned and then straightened out.

If it doesnt auto-cancel after say, 200 feet, then it's likely unplugged, has a dirty connection or has simply gone bad.

I don't know when Kaw started putting those new-fangled modern space-age gadgets on motorcycles, but they weren't there in 1977. Anyone know what year was first to have them? Ed

Thinking it should be referenced in manual and/or wiring diagram.

Good Luck! :)

My '79 sure doesn't have self cancelling turn signals. You can easily make an add on by building a solid state flasher to blink the turn signals using a 555 timer and power it from another 555 wired up as a one-shot which turns on for maybe 15 seconds and then times out. The blinking stops even if the TS signal switch is still in the ON position. I was lazy and just added a loud beeper that barks when the TS blinks because that was easier.

My 78 Z1R has the auto cancel feature. There is a switch on the left hand controls you can choose auto, manual, or hazard.
