it says in the manual for the installation of the dyna 2000 connect the green wire (for me) to the input wire for the tach!

so which one is it :woohoo:
i didn't want to risk my normal trial and error method

anyone know the colour of the input wire for a kz1000 J motor.

they want you to use one of the main trigger wires from your ignition plate. it wont matter which one.

It's the Kawasaki green one. You know what wire it is you just want to see if we know. I'd walk outside and check but my feet hurt...lol

On each ignition coil you have a 12V supply wire (red or red/yellow) and a trigger wire - the trigger wire on one coil is black, on the other it's green. You can use any of the trigger wires (black or green) to feed the tach.

As I said in my PM I didn't read your original question correctly, sorry - I consulted my diagrams and the Dyna 2000 installation guide and this should be correct:

In the stock configuration the tach reds off the black trigger wire connected to one of your ignition coils - in other words the tach input wire is black. It may not connect directly to the coil terminal, but you should be able to find it at the tach plug.

Connect the black wire going to the tach to either the green or the yellow wire coming out of the Dyna 2000 - I'm not sure which one, but if your tach seems significantly off (like showing half or double what it used to) use the other one.

After connecting the Dyna 2000 to your coils you do not want to have the black tach input wire connected to the coil anymore as the tach is now triggered directly from the Dyna 2000.

Hope this helps you some.

No problem, you're welcome. I'm in the middle of reworking the wiring on my 1100 so no big detour. ;)
