coil to plug order
03 Aug 2009 07:53
Have read many post's that identify coil hookups are 1&4 and 2&3.
Is this physical 1 left cylinder and 4 far right cylinder and 2&3 being middle... 1,2,3,4
Or is this firing order 1,2,4,3 so physical cylinders 1&3 and 2&4

As you are sitting on the bike, look down and the far left cylinder is # 1...move to right to #2, #3, and #4 on far right.

One of the coils is supposed to route its two plug wires to the outside sparkplugs which are numbered 1 and 4.
The other coil is supposed to route its two plug wires to the inside sparkplugs which are numbered 2 and 3.
On the large fours, typically the lefthand coil (on the bike's shift lever side) fires the outside plugs #1/4, and the righthand coil (on the bike's brake pedal side) fires the inside plugs #2/3.
I believe the KZ650 may reverse the physical coil positions, but never-the-less one coil fires #1/4 and the other fires #2/3.
Often, a black wire signals whichever coil is firing #1/4, and a green wire signals the other coil firng #2/3.
Good Luck!

Correct on the 650 coil positions. The 550, 650, and I would think the 750, have the 1-4 coil on the right, and 2-3 coil on the left.
