Ignition Spark Noise
24 Jul 2009 21:24
I notice the bike making a erratic spark noise around the point/condenser area at an idle. All screws are tight and all contacts are clean, dry and proper.New plugs and wires are good. The only thing I haven't done was run it at night with the cover off and watch for spark jump. Any other Idea of a problem inherant on the 1977 KZ650 B1 that causes this noise?

It might be time for capacitior/condensor replacement. Check the condition of the points, are they looking burned?
If it were me,I'd get a Dyna S and have set it and forget it electronic ignition.I think they make one for the 650's.

I was also going to vote for the condenser. That is the piece that keeps the voltage arc at the points down to a manageable level. If the condenser is bad or not hooked up, the points will have a huge voltage arc each time they open and they will burn out rather quickly.
