4 pin ignition switch.
03 Jul 2009 22:37
finally got my 1976 kz 900 running after all the probs with the alternator rotor. two issues, i need a four pin ignition switch. this bike has a six pin on it now but without jumping a blue, brown or red wire to the white i have no lights, electric start ect....... second, the bike is charging at a rate of 16.5 to 17 volts. this thing has a mixture of old and new as far as wireing goes. the previous owner converted to an electronic ignition off a newer kz. there is two connectors that woould be about mid gas tank as they lay that go to nothing. one is a flat two pin and the other is box shape four pin. just started the bike today and man does she sound nasty. id really like to get these issues sorted so i can feel the rath of my kaw. thanks in advance everyone, marc..............

16.5 to 17 volts. Your voltage regulator is no good, should be about 14.4 to 14.8, check it out before you kill other charging components like the stator. I have a 6 prong switch to a 4 prong harness and no troubles, The side that resembles a W so to say should match not the flat side.

ive matched the correct sides together. i made sure by matching the corresponding color wires from the bike harness side to the six pin ignition side. this is a four pin bike side harness. im not sure because nothing powers up when i plug it in. any ideas about the two connectors that i mentioned. can i use a voltage regulator off a newer bike. i do have a good one of those. they look completely different. would it take a big wiring change. thanks, marc...whats the purpose of the resistor thing that is on the left side of the bike that looks prehistoric.
