model identification

model identification

I got a 1982 kz1000, and have no idea which model it is, im trying to figure out the wiring from the Previous Owner and I need to know if im working on a j1, j2, K1, K2, m1, m2, I have no idea how to tell the diff, all covers and tanks are gone, and Im still waiting on the title!, can I tell from the vin# or what, I appreciate any help, thanks in advance!

If you know your vin number you should be able to determine your model on their web site. :)

If it is an 82, then it is an X2 (X being J,K, or M).

K and M both have the front axle mounted on the front of the forks, M has wire spoke wheels while K has mags,

J has the front axle mounted directly on the bottom of the forks and has mag wheels.

That should be enough for you to figure out what you have.
