accel coils
08 Aug 2007 15:03
Hi,I'm new to the forum but I've been reading it for awhile and I know someone here can help.I have an 81 kz750e with the stock ignition but bad coils and I have a pair of accel coils 140403 that are both showing .9 ohms primary resistance, can I use these on the bike?I did put them on the bike and it fired right up and seamed to run good but not being sure if it would hurt the bike I didn't ride it.Any insight would be great.
Thanks

.9 OHMS equals a "lot" of current flowing through the igniter to ground :woohoo:
Probably let the magic smoke out of the igniter rather soon
What does the manual specify? 2.2 - 2.4 ohms?
I just checked and it says "about 2.25 ohms"

Coils can be costly but beware - ignitors cost an arm and a leg.

.9 is way too low for the stock ignitor. .9 is a CDI coil. You do not have a CDI ignition.
If you blow the ignitor, you can make one for about $35.

Sure, but it's only for mechanical-advance type electronic ignitions.
