If it was hooked up wrong so that 60-80 volts AC was being fed to the bikes wiring system, then I'm pretty sure that it would fry an igniter and a regulator.

Is this a hypothetical question or are you referring to the J motor bike in your sig? I am pretty sure it doesn't matter which wire goes to which connector on the reg/rec other than one has a different connect.

Is it normal for one of the clips to be different from the other two? I mean, is that stock? I wouldn't have expected that. If the wires are the same color it shouldn't matter, but the odd clip is strange.

There are scenarios where the order of the alternator wires matter, but that was only on some older regulator designs. By 1982 I don't think the order should have mattered.

yes one of the wires on my J motor has a female clip, i
m just trying to figure out why my bike has no power and why i burnt up a negative wire that lead to my ignighter.

i'm not the brightest bulb in the pack when it comes to electrical things.
