77 KZ 650 b1 This wouldn't be any fun if something wasn't keeping me on my toes! Everything is functioning fine now that Ive gotten my oregon bikes Regulator mounted except the red wire coming from the rectifier! Its getting hot! Could this be from a poor connection? Also it is connected to a white/red wire, is this the correct wire? You guys are experts so what is the deal before I melt something?? :) ........ Shaun

I was looking at the connection on my bike today and they are dirty.. So get some electrical cleaner from the hardware store and just spray it on and reconncet them.. If that's not your problem it wil only help anyway..

Like vach said, see if needs cleaning.

Does the wire from the rectifier that connects to red/white wire go straight to the battery? Does it only get hot with the bike on/not running, or running?

Check the voltage coming off of it. Also, check the voltage across the battery with the bike on/not running, and running.

and your talking about the white wire from the rectifier in this diagram correct?

If you cant see it, you can download it here:

Only gets hot while running and I am pretty sure the red wire comes out of the rect. and plugs to a white/red wire that goes strait to a fuse..
Oh forgott to mention that the hottest point is at the connector. It seems that is the main source of heat??

Did you take it apart and look at the connection? If Its there, that sounds like thats where the problem is. see if it needs cleaning.

sky... Is this device we are talking about a REGULATOR or a regulator/rectifier? If it is just a regulator, the red wire will connect to a wire coming off the rectifier and this Y will go to both the battery via the solenoid lug AND the main fuse.

Yes this is a seperate rect./Reg. and the wire does split going to the batt and the fuse according to the wire diagram. Also should the rect. get warm? I have checked volt. at 4000rpm and is checking out fine at 14 volts so no overcharging.

The rectifier usually gets warm. If it's getting warm at the connection, it could be the old red/white wire or the actual connection itself. If the old wire is in bad shape, it will be difficult to splice a new conector on and get good contact, but that may be what's needed.
