2 items I wish to ask about here.
1978 KZ 650C daily rider

1- Extremly weak spark (just barely see it) 2 week old plugs, points look ok, set at .014, any ideas?

2- Considering full Dyna, coils and electronic: has any-one purchased from "chitown-choppers" on e-bay
Item number: 320116094276
Seems like a good deal

I can't even buy a new set of points in town for my bike and if I order them they are $27 each.

Thanks for all replies,
Darryl

try shopping around... ebay stuff is rarely cheap - and these are not cheap

for less than $260 you'll get similar from Z1 Ent. - even points/condesnsors for under $20

Ive put dyna s's on two of my bikes - both from Z1 Ent.

CRC and a few others are worth checking out too.

Some random thoughts ---

History of bike? Was it running okay before? Did this happen suddenly?

Battery voltage low?
Spark plug caps or high tension wires defective?
Spark plug caps not making good contact?
Point gap maladjusted?
Capacitor (condenser) defective?
Coils checked (primary and secondary ohms readings)?
Fully charged battery voltage reaching coils?
Any black goo oozing from coils?

Believe it's unusual for both coils to crap out simultaneously. Same poor spark on all 4 plugs, or just on cylinders 1/4 or 2/3?

Would troubleshoot ignition system before tossing possibly good coils.

With that said, the Dyna system from Z1E is a good choice to cure whatever ails it.

Wishing Good Luck with the repairs. :)

Battery good and also attempted with charger
Tried wiggling caps while checking spark and no change
Condensers new last year, point gap double checked at .014 then tried .016
Poor spark on all plugs
Not comfortable with meter so have not done good diagnosis on other items

History: Fired immediatly after winter, sat for 1 week would not start, installed new B7 NGK's and rode for 2 weeks.
Sat for 5 days, would not start again, this is where I am now.

Engine whizzed over pretty good before I put charger on battery but maybe I will take your advice and check for 13? volts.

Thank-you

battery---coil---points---ground

You should see about 12V at the battery side connector on the coil when the points for that coil are closed. If not, then find your high resistance between the battery and coil(most likely corroded fuse holder or connector, it may get HOT) OR look into WG's coil mod.
