81 KZ 440 I got no spark
28 Apr 2007 14:56
Hello I bought my first bike not long ago it's a 81 KZ 440.
I have had it running and it was running fine I put it away for a few days and now I have spark or start.
I am not sure why or how to go about troubleshooting this problem. I had a look at the advance timming thing I don't see anything that looks like points or a condencer. I am not sure what gives the spark to the plugs. Please Help. Thanks

The first thing to do is take off the timing advancer, pick up, and igniter, and mail them to me so I can convert another 750 twin to electronic ignition.
Just joking of course, but that tells you something about the ignition.
www.kz400.com has an enormous amount of info on the 400/440 twins, manuals and wiring diagrams are available online there.
Not that I want to send you away, it's just that nothing compares to kz400.com when it comes to the 400/440 twins.
Take a look at the manuals and the wiring diagram for the 440 there, and read the tech articles, it will make things so much easier.
