i have set points before and not had a problem but when i tried to do them on this bike for the first time today i couldnt get the gap wide enough. i got each side to the highest point and the gap was too small, almost not even open. when i loosened the screws, nothing i did made the gap any bigger. i even tried maxing out the positions on a low point of the cam to see if it would open even more on the high point and that didnt get me there. at one point i tried to start the bike and the right side wasnt opening at all. is this what happens when you have to replace them? they dont look bad but is something worn too far? or is something not set up right on here?

The points are probably worn where they rub on the cam. Very common if you don't keep the cam well lubed. Time for new points or throw them out and go electronic.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.
