I just bought an '80 Kz 1000 with no keys. is there a way to replicate the key using the VIN? Only because I don't want to replace the gas cap,etc. For now, I'm trying to figure out how to bypass the switch. Thanks,VIC

To add to what wireman said, the number will be on the seat lock or helmet lock. It will be 7xx I think. I also believe that these numbers mean something to a locksmith who can cut a key off the code.

i went to my local lock jock and gave them my key number. they put in the code and cut a new key without using any of my keys. i went to my bike and ill be dang if it didnt work on all 3 locks. i was very amazed

I haven't had to use these guys as I still have the original keys that came with both bikes, but someone posted this link awhile back and it looked like a handy reference for Kawasaki keys:
