1976 KZ900. Anybody ever made the grounding bolt/hole at the rear right on the tranny case a little larger? I think stock it's probably 6mm x 1mm pitch and I was thinking of taking it up to perhaps 8mm x 1mm pitch.

Would just like to be grounding the case ground with a somewhat stouter bolt.

Any thoughts? Thanks.

What is the issue with the existing bolt?

Nevco48, nothing particular, just that I'm fitting new 4ga grounding strap from the Batt- along with new 4ga strap going from the same newly soldered 2ga copper lug, up to my grounding bar under the seat and just wanted to anchor the new 2ga lug to the cases with something a little more substantial than a 6mm bolt.

Tap out the 6 x 1 to 8 x 1, buy new 8 x 1 x 20 steel bolt and she's done. Anyone think of any downside?

Sounds a little like over-kill, but I can't see that there would be any harm in it. Then again, I don't know diddley-squat about much.:pinch:

I don't think it would be necessary, not even sure it would be a good idea except under one condition.
If the hole you are referring to is a through hole, then it should be ok. If it is a blind hole, then for 1) you should use a bottoming/end tap to finish, as opposed to tapered. And 3) you are sizing the hole out nearly 2mm extra. Just make sure it will not make the walls tooooo thin.
