If you notice a difference between a set of new points on a correctly operating ignition, and an electronic ignition, usually that means there is something wrong with the motor or carburetion.
Spark energy should not affect combustion on a good motor with proper carburetion.
The problem is that points wear rapidly (compared to an electronic ignition).
However, if your motor is worn or your carbs are out of whack, bigger spark can make a noticeable improvement.
